20 FAQ's

Here are the 20 most frequently asked questions about water beds - and answers.
1. What is the advantage of sleeping on water?

There are five major benefits of sleeping in a waterbed:
o    The whole body is supported
     o    No pressure points
     o    Relaxing warmth
     o    Hygienic surface
o    The mattress longevity without overlap, ie water mattress always keeps its shape.

2. Who invented the waterbed?
The first waterbeds were made of goatskin and were solar heated. It was invented 3,000 years ago in Persia. In the year 1851 the British Dr. William Hooper invented a water mattress of rubber to prevent bedsores and helped hospital patients to a better sleep comfort. In 1960 the American Charles Hall developed a bed with new materials and new production technologies. But the same for all inventors was that they all used nature's most natural element - namely water - to reach the optimal sleep.

3. What is the difference between hard-side and soft-side waterbeds?
In a hard side waterbed the water mattress is placed in a strong wooden frame, normally with a pedestal beneath. Soft-side waterbed is constructed with a frame of foam rails that are comfortable to sit on. It is also placed on a pedestal adjusted to a comfortable height.

4. What is the difference between the different types of mattress?
You cannot see the difference - but you can feel it. The difference is in the mattress. It is partly the "wave attenuation" (stabilizations) that determine how fast the mattress is quiet after you lay on it, partly the construction of the stabilisation- and lumber fibre layers. Try different types and select the type that fits you best.

5. Is it healthy for the back to lie on a waterbed?
Absolutely yes. No other bed gives your back and entire body this perfect support. The mattress follows and supports your entire body and no matter how much or how little you weigh, you have a feeling of weightlessness in a waterbed.

6. Do I wake my partner when I go to bed?
In the non-stabilized waterbed models only if you jump into the bed. If you go to bed in a usually way, your partner will hardly notice that you came to bed.

7. Will I be seasick?
No. When you are moving in a waterbed, you may notice motion in the water mattress. When you are lying still in the bed - the water is also at rest immediately after. You can choose a "wave attenuation" (stabilisation) from free-flow (0% stabilised) to 99% stabilised. Choose the one that suits you best.

8. Does love thrive in a waterbed?
Your love life is not negatively affected in a water bed.

9. Splashing and noisy water?
No. A waterbed has to be completely silent. If the water mattress is noisy, there is air in the water mattress, either from filling up the water mattress or from bacteria build-up in the water.
Air is easily pumped out with our Air Extractor. Preventing bacteria build-up in the water is also easily done by adding our Conditioner (algae and bacteria-killing product).

10. Is it easy to get in and out of a waterbed?
If you choose a soft-side waterbed, it's like a regular bed. If you choose a hard-side waterbed, you just try a few times and then it's no problem.

11. Can I sit up in a waterbed?
Yes, with a pillow in the back you sit magnificently. You can also choose a wedge-shaped cushion that provides both good back and arm support.

12. Can the bed crash through the floor?
No, even though a large waterbed weighs between 170 and 900 kilos, there is no danger. The weight of a double bed is evenly distributed over a large area of about 4 square meters. A man, for example on 90 kg only distributes his entire weight on 1 to 2 feets - so if the floor can keep to an adult - it can easily cope with a waterbed.

13. What happens if the mattress leak?
The risk of the leakage is very small. Wa'cores vinyl is incredibly strong and all joints are double welded and are well protected under the mattress. But should the accident occur, the water is kept inside the safety liner and never come out on the floor.

14. Do the children jump in a waterbed?
No problem. The stabilisation fibres and lumbar support fibre layers will after a short time automatically get into place, and the bed is just as good as before the game started.

15. How often should the water be changed?
Only if you have to move. The water must be added conditioner (algae and bacteria-killing product) every 6-12 months, but the water should never be changed.

16. Is a waterbed easy to move?
Yes. It is much easier than a normal bed. The only requirement is that the bed is emptied for water. Use a clean garden hose and water runs by itself, or connect a water pump so it is even easier to empty the bed for water.

17. The mattress can be cleaned?
A waterbed is one of the most hygienic, you can sleep in. The surface of the water mattress is easy to clean from dirt and dust mites and the mattress cover can easily be cleaned in a household washing machine at 60 degree Celsius.

18 Do I sweat in a waterbed?
No, not if you keep the water temperature as your external temperature of 28-30 degrees.

19. Does my home insurance if the unthinkable should happen?
